an online community for poets
Back in April this year I decided to challenge myself to write a poem every day for a year. I was unaware that April was poetry month and lots of people were writing a poem every day in April. Of course doing this some of the poems tend to be a bit rubbishy, but the discipline of doing it is wonderful and I would not like to have missesd out on some of the poems I have written. Without the discipline they would not have been written.
I seem to have an easy time writing poems. They just come to me and I do little polishing. Maybe that shows! I find it a joyous process. I think perhaps I should try honing my work, but I am afraid of spoiling it. Would love to know how others work. I always need a reason to write and can't write in a vacuum. I need to know at least someone is reading or hearing my poetry. I am a trainee local preacher here in England and often inflict a poem on my congregation. Can you work in a vacuum?
